How it works

Traditional Chinese medicine is believed to date back as far as 3000 years ago. When certain locations on the body are needled, they activate the body’s own healing powers. The human body is designed with an innate ability to heal itself, and we are becoming more aware of this as we explore various integrative medicines. Acupuncture points are believed to stimulate the central nervous system, which releases chemicals into the muscles, spinal cord, and brain. These biochemical changes may stimulate the body's natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being.

According to modern research, acupuncture needles trigger the release of endorphins and enkephalins by activating opiate receptors in the brain. While medications used to manage pain or maintain mood produce the same results, the difference is that those medications come with side effects, whereas acupuncture needles do not. Another important difference is that medications can be habit-forming and only mask symptoms, whereas acupuncture not only addresses symptoms but also eradicates underlying root causes. Painkillers such as muscle relaxants or nerve depressants do not address the real issue of imbalances in the body and, while providing faster relief, are not dependable for a lifetime.

Smooth Qi Flow

Acupuncture facilitates the smooth flow of Qi, which is the very basis of the universe's infinite manifestations of life, including minerals, plants, animals, and human beings. Qi can be simplified as the energy or function of a certain subject. When this Qi is blocked due to certain life situations, it reflects in undesirable changes at the physical, physiological, mental, and emotional levels. For example, a poorly designed workspace can alter our posture, impacting our physical level of Qi (musculoskeletal pain). A stressful relationship can affect our mental level of Qi, which can also affect our physiological and physical levels of Qi (stress, anxiety, mood disorders). Acupuncture ensures that Qi is moving smoothly while life is happening, and the body is adjusting accordingly or being supported through that phase. Many modern ailments are the result of stagnated Qi flow in the body, leading further down to Qi exhaustion and yin and yang imbalance.

Find Internal Balance

We are all born with a certain amount of yin and yang, which support our body when kept in balance. If yin and yang are out of balance, it is considered a pathological state. A person who demonstrates an excess of yin in their body will certainly have a lower body temperature and lack proper circulation, eventually exhausting their yang because the body's yang has to work hard to keep the body in balance with an excess of yin. This imbalance of yin and yang will continue to the point when the body shows an overall deficiency of yin and yang. Getting acupuncture treatments in the earlier stages of imbalances will keep the body from developing any complex issues of modern life, and will also keep the Qi flow smooth to continue the body's function in the right direction.

Regulate Circadian

Regulate Circadian Rhythm

Your circadian rhythm is your sleep-wake pattern over the course of a 24-hour day.  It helps control your daily schedule for sleep and wakefulness. Most living things have one. Circadian rhythm is influenced by light and dark, as well as other factors. Your brain receives signals based on your environment and activates certain hormones, alters your body temperature, and regulates your metabolism to keep you alert or draw you to sleep.  Some may experience disruptions to their circadian rhythm because of external factors or sleep disorders. Maintaining healthy habits can help you respond better to this natural rhythm of your body. There are several components that make up your body’s circadian rhythm. It is one of four biological rhythms in the body. We can assist you in maintaining your circadian rhythm to facilitate the normal bodily functions.
